THURSDAY JUNE 16, 2005 @ ANGELO’S RESTAURANT IN BELLEVUE

Attendees:  Dave George, Gary Gervelis, Jeff Kenner, Tim Leach, Bob MacOnie, Mike Mickiewicz, John Nagy, Hugh Nelson, Ben Petersen, Steve Redding, Ken Swindaman

With our vendor presentation, the meeting size was impressive and our regular format adjusted accordingly.  We entertained a social period that began at 6:00PM and carried through till 6:30.  At this time, we ordered dinner and continued our table discussions until the meeting began.

WSS-ACSM Chairman Dave George opened the meeting at 7:30PM.

Dave George announced that the LSAW Conference contribution was significant and was deposited.  He acknowledged Tim for helping to put together the evening’s program.

Old Business

Those in attendance agreed that WSS-ACSM should help provide a venue for the 2006 WAURISA conference.  We also agreed to make contact with the WAURISA officers to continue discussion, find out more of the particulars and continue this at subsequent meetings.

The matter of making a contribution to the LSAW auction was entertained.  We discussed ideas of a free dinner at any of the WSS-ACSM regular meetings plus a free registration for the Walker Cup, Golf Tournament in 2006.  A motion was made and passed by all in attendance.  We will have to inform LSAW of our contribution.

Updates continue to be made to the WSS-ACSM web page.  We acknowledged and thanked Bob Bonaker from Geoline once again.  Last month’s minutes were available for reading prior to this months meeting.  Gary mentioned we may need a “face lift”.  Tim mentioned that he will accept any and all suggestions through email.  We will probably do simple changes first.  Dave said he would collect the WSS-ACSM by-laws for possible scanning and inclusion per Ken Swindaman’s suggestion at the last meeting.

We discussed Jon Warren’s idea of recognizing a surveyor for accomplishments within GIS as the “GIS Surveyor of the Year”, then likewise a person from the GIS profession for accomplishments within surveying “GIS Associate Surveyor of the Year”.  We agreed that this would be an appropriate award to be presented at the WSS-ACSM dinner meeting at the LSAW conference.  We discussed briefly how a selection could be made by soliciting responses from; URISA, CPS-GIS, LSAW, ASPRS and others.  We made a motion, passed the motion and will bring this idea forward for action at subsequent meetings.

New Business

Mike mentioned that the Western Federation of Professional Land Surveyors was contributing to a program at “GIS in the Rockies”.  The surveying community is reaching out to help educate the GIS community through workshops and programs.

Ben Petersen on behalf of LSAW asked that WSS-ACSM consider providing a “tract” and initial financial support for the 2007 LSAW State Conference.  The “tract” would entail a program that occurs each day of the conference.  He noted that participation would ultimately benefit WSS-ACSM financially, through contribution.  All in attendance agreed that WSS-ACSM should provide a tract and support the LSAW conference.   We made a motion, passed the motion and will bring this idea forward for action at subsequent meetings.

Vendor Presentation

John Nagy from “Aerials Express” presented his company’s product that is somewhat unique as it combines a “lightweight GIS” software package, with extensive aerial imagery (from Snohomish County down through Pierce) along with county parcel data and GDT streets.  The presentation was fun and lively.

Dave George adjourned the meeting at 8:42PM.  Next meeting:  21 July, 2005 at 6:00PM.

Many in attendance enjoyed the program and passed this along as they departed.
