WSS-ACSM MINUTES
August 19th, 2004
www.wss-acsm.org
Attendees:
Dave George,
Gary Gervelis, Jeff Kenner,
Tim Leach, Mike Mickiewicz,
Julie Morland, Ben Petersen, Steve Reding, Jon Warren
WSS-ACSM Chairman Dave George
opened the meeting at 6:24PM.
Dave reports our account balance is hovering around
$400. He announced that the letters and
application forms for WSS-ACSM memberships were sent (which will bring the
balance up). Several people have
reported returned mailings. He has
cross-checked the address, ensured our box was up-to-date, and believes our mailbox
may have filled from returned membership applications and dues.
Julie volunteered to help our injury recovering, past
treasurer, Denise Haugen and collect the
mail. Denise reported our mailbox had
filled. She acquired a larger box,
requested our mail be forwarded and payed for an
additional year.
Additional
membership drive suggestions followed:
Jon Warren suggested that LSAW sponsored CORS teachers
should be invited to WSS-ACSM to share their experience. The last presentation by participating
teachers at a monthly dinner meeting was inspirational.
Gary Gervelis suggested a
possible 4 hour venue to precede the upcoming
November, “Great Pacific Northwest GPS Seminar and Exposition”. This would allow those that are not able to
participate in the main event a professional education opportunity focusing
on practical applications of the technology to cover occupation, accuracies,
and processing with reference to the Puget Reference Station Network. As in past meetings, it was mentioned that
field results from the VRS are truly amazing.
Decimeter accuracies for mapping grade equipment may provide a draw to
membership from the GIS community.
Applications and membership letters were sent to existing
WSS-ACSM members (most through LSAW) and it was suggested additional
membership mailings to include:
Central Puget Sound-GIS User’s Group
(CPS-GIS)
Washington Urban and Regional Information
Systems Association (WAURISA)
American Society for Photogrammetry
and Remote Sensing (ASPRS)
Land Surveyors Association of Washington
(LSAW) - full membership body
Washington Geographic Information Council
(WAGIC).
Several people were interested in obtaining their
certificates for membership. Larry
Signani has been notified and is on it
Tim Leach will pursue
acquiring a room at the Muckleshoot Casino for an upcoming October meeting on
the Puget Reference Station Network (PRSN) and the Spatial Reference Center
of Washington (SRCW). Maybe we should
try Friday instead of Thursday.
Gary Gervelis is approaching
longstanding friends of WSS-ACSM and LSAW: Geoline,
Walker & Associates, for membership to the SRCW. It is anticipated that funding may be
available in a couple of weeks. The
first order of business will be to create a work plan for coordinating
efforts through the NGS funding. Additional
CORS stations in the Snoqualmie, Hyatt area may be planned to cover gaps in
these areas.
Jon Warren needs two
people to address the PRSN and SRCW next February at the LSAW Conference in Everett. Dave George,
Chairman of WSS-ACSM is responsible for providing these speakers. It was speculated that Gavin Schrock and
Dave Steele may be available at that time.
Jon needs resumes and a synopsis of topics by October 15th.
Jon is putting together an exciting, breath-taking,
spectacular presentation for a planned, big, membership drive for 2005. He is planning a preview at WSS-ACSM early
in 2005.
Jeff reported an ASPRS, Remote Sensing Conference at Kansas
City in November.
REGULAR MEETINGS ARE ON THE THIRD THURSDAY OF EACH MONTH
AT ANGELO'S RESTAURANT IN BELLEVUE
(1830 130TH AVE NE).
ARRIVE AT ABOUT 6:00PM.
