Design Considerations In Anticipation Of Rising Sea Levels
Sea level rise is increasingly being considered by private and public entities
when making decisions about the placement and protection of structures near
shorelines. The fourth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on
Climate Change (IPCC) projects global SLR over the course of this century to be
between 18 and 38 cm (7-15″) for their lowest emissions scenario, and between
26 and 59 cm (10-23″) for their highest emissions scenario. Based on the current
science, our “medium” estimate of 21st century SLR in Washington is that in
Puget Sound, local SLR will closely match global SLR. (from

He has gained a unique perspective on issues of importance to GIS and survey professionals in the Puget Sound community. Dave will be introducing a new sensor available from his present company, Terra Remote that can gather hundreds of layers of spectral imagery - uniquely suited for wetlands, near shore and coastal applications. Together, when combined with LIDAR, the sensors and returned data have the potential for helping to qualify and quantify previously difficult areas with many bands beyond the visible.
